With great pride the Foundation awarded $18,440.00 in grants to AISD educators in May!

 

 

Atlanta Elementary School

  • Erika Purtle, Rachelle McNutt, Holly Brown, and Sasha Posey
  • “Get Your Facts Straight”  
  • $3,800
  • These teachers will add Flashmasters for use in 3rd grade Math classrooms. These innovative and creative tools will be used to help students memorize addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts making flashcards obsolete.

  • Mary Ann Crane, Tina Gilbert, and Tammy McClure
  • “Get Your Facts Straight in 2nd Grade”  
  • $3,800
  • These teachers will add Flashmasters for use in 2nd grade Math classrooms. These innovative and creative tools will be used to help students memorize addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts making flashcards obsolete.

 

Atlanta Elementary School

  • Erika Purtle and Casi Blackburn
  • “Burn Some Zenergy!”  
  • $2,840
  • These teachers will equip classrooms with Runtz Zenergy Ball chairs. These innovative alternatives to standard classroom chairs promote good posture while helping students strengthen muscles and sharpen attention spans. These chairs allow students an escape from spending the entire day at traditional metal chairs adding an element of exercise to a sedentary classroom.

  • “AES Lego Robots – The Next Generation”  
  • $3,800
  • This teacher will add a Lego Robotic Program at AES. This STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) program will enable students to actively become involved in their own learning process by building engineering and science intuition, developing their interests in math and scientific technology and by strengthening their research and problem solving skills, as well as reading, writing, presentation skills, and creativity.

  • “ilove to Read”  
  • $4,200
  • These teachers will add digital textbooks to existing iPod Touches at AES. The use of audio books on the iPod is a powerful tool that puts interactive learning directly into the hands of the students providing differentiated instruction while increasing vocabulary and building fluency. By placing books on iPods, technology can be matched to learning styles. This innovative and creative approach is being used in whole group and small group instruction.
